I was doing some chicken pickin’ with bare fingers, and started making this popping noise in the middle of the licks. Eventually I had to figure out how I did it. I went to the Grammys with this, Country Instrumental of the Year in 2001. Lost to Earl Scruggs, what are you gonna do?
Chicken pickin’ in A played with bare fingers. The index and thumb work the same note, damping the sound for a percussive effect. Made this up at a session when I lost my voice and had to do something. My wife had to talk me into releasing it. Thank you Louise!
