Video Guitar Lesson
In this final installment of the Truefire “It’s Hot Outside” blog, we’ll be applying all the “outside” licks we’ve learned in the previous four blog installments! In the previous videos, we’ve covered melodic lines that incorporate diminished, augmented, 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths, all of which will be illustrated in this…the finale of the blog series. Each lick is demonstrated over a 12-bar blues backing track in “A”.
Watch closely and you’ll notice that every melodic idea covered in the previous lessons shows up in the improvisation over the track. This installment shows that it is possible to play “outside” even in a blues/rock context, and that these licks add new colors to a familiar musical backing. I use the melodic ideas over various chords in the progression to show the versatility of each line, and how easy it can be to apply them in your own playing.
Thank you for tuning in to my “It’s Hot Outside” blog, it was an honor to be able to present it to you and I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. Also, thank you for watching and for all your comments!
