The worldwide community of guitarists and musicians is one of the main reasons why TrueFire is where it is today. With our students’ input and feedback, we stay motivated to continue to expand our library and improve our music e-learning experience. So, while we spend a lot of time highlighting our incredible faculty and content, we think it’s time to move the spotlight on some of our most passionate users.
In this Student Spotlight series, we’ll be showcasing a member of the diverse TrueFire community and sharing their thoughts with you. We hope you find yourself inspired. Ignited we stand!
Student Spotlight: Meade
Your Name:
Michael M.
How long have you been a TrueFire Student?
12 years.
Tell us a little bit about yourself as a musician:
I have been trying to make up for lost time, don’t know if I will ever catch up, but I look at it as a journey now more than a destination. Grew up going to catholic school, and music wasn’t one of the things nuns like to teach, more like hand-to-hand combat, but that’s another story. I have more than one guitar. I have big fingers, so I ordered a super wide neck from Warmoth Guitars for my telecaster that I made myself. I have a few acoustics as well. I also have two banjos and two keyboards. I retired a few years ago and plan on going through all the courses I purchased from TrueFire. I am 71 years young and have a lot of catching up to do. I grew up listening to Elvis (still do) and also like classic rock and country as well. I practice every day but haven’t gotten to the place I would like to be musical. I enjoy learning and trying to get better, so will just keep on keeping on, so to speak.
What attracted you to TrueFire at first?
When I was making guitars a man at Warmoth Guitars told me about you.
What are some of your favorite TrueFire courses or lessons?
The Efficient Guitarist, Fretboard Breakthough are two that I go back to now and again. I like to study music theory so I know what people are talking about. I am looking forward to diving into all of them now that I have the time. at this point, I don’t care so much to watch someone play like a woodpecker on the crank. I want to get there someday, but not ready yet.
How has TrueFire helped improve your playing?
I really like the courses, I would have to admit to being sort of a loner and keeping to myself, so I try to get what I can from the courses I picked out. I am still trying to figure out what the best route is.
Why do you use TrueFire, and how often?
I like teaching myself how to do things. I built my own house, made kitchen cabinets, made my own golf clubs, fly fish, scuba dive, worked on cars and outboard motors, and fixed just about anything. I do electrical and plumbing as well, not to mention working on and repairing guitars
What is your favorite feature of the TrueFire learning experience?
Learning about music and how it works. I don’t know if TrueFire offers a course like you find in college, but that would be something I would be interested in.
Who is your favorite TrueFire Educator and why?
I do like them all. It would be hard to say which is my favorite. I try to learn what I can from them all. I do prefer instructors who go a bit slower and explain things clearly.
What would you like to see more of at TrueFire?
At this point, song lessons.
Any other comments?
My sister was killed by a drunk driver at age 17, so I try to live every day, every minute to the fullest, and enjoy life.
