How long have you been a TrueFire Student?
Almost 2 years.
Tell us a little bit about yourself as a musician:
Played previously and stopped for 25 years. Overall played for about 15 years. I like rock, blues, and jazz. Located in Maryland.
What attracted you to TrueFire at first?
I liked the content and convenience.
What are some of your favorite TrueFire courses or lessons?
Anything by Brad Carlton, Timmons. Also, like Rob Garland, Robbie Calvo, and Marc Schonbrun.
How has TrueFire helped improve your playing?
It has helped with my understanding of what I am doing on the
Why do you use TrueFire, and how often?
To improve on my playing in an efficient, cost-effective way. Use it several times a week.
What is your favorite feature of the TrueFire learning experience?
The content. Anything that helps me learn new things and apply what I have learned to become a better player.
Who is your favorite TrueFire Educator and why?
Brad Carlton – even his casual passing remarks are filled with insight, and I like how thorough he is when explaining and illustrating various topics. He is an exceptional educator and doesn’t dumb things down.
What would you like to see more of at TrueFire?
More on applying modes, more on next-level theory (beyond the basics), more on exercises and how to develop your own exercises, and more on a curriculum-what constitutes the baseline knowledge to have a solid foundation for being a great player. I have developed my list as a self-taught player and reverse engineer my learning based on ideas these instructors present and that I don’t yet understand, especially when I see common themes being mentioned by several instructors. Those become my baseline of topics to work on as an intermediate player.

I also subscribe to JamPlay and like it, but Truefire is my preferred platform. I like the variety and value at TrueFire and while I understand every site has to cater to beginners since they are probably the bulk of customers, I like the attention to older demos at TrueFire as well. Don’t change too much, guys — you are doing pretty well as it is!
