The worldwide community of guitarists and musicians is one of the main reasons why TrueFire is where it is today. With our students’ input and feedback, we stay motivated to continue to expand our library and improve our music e-learning experience. So, while we spend a lot of time highlighting our incredible faculty and content, we think it’s time to move the spotlight on some of our most passionate users.

In this Student Spotlight series, we’ll be showcasing a member of the diverse TrueFire community and sharing their thoughts with you. We hope you find yourself inspired. Ignited we stand!

Student Spotlight: theFaf

Your Name:

Scott F.

How long have you been a TrueFire Student?

Since 2010 – over 12 years.

Tell us a little bit about yourself as a musician:

I’ve been a musician since about 10 years old (sax). I’ve been playing guitar since I was about 16 years old. I play mainly rock and blues, but I dabble in other styles and other instruments (bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele). I am in Georgia, USA.

What attracted you to TrueFire at first?

Wow. I’m not sure. Probably an email or forum post that offered a course that interested me.

What are some of your favorite TrueFire courses or lessons?

There are many. I’ve learned something from pretty much every course. I guess my favorite instructors (based on the sheer number of courses that I own) are Jeff McErlain, Chris Buono, and Brad Carlton, but I also really enjoy many, many others. The different voices are great because even when I watch a course on the same topic, they often have different approaches or explanations. And, I am really liking the new blood coming on board (even the older, new blood). 🙂

How has TrueFire helped improve your playing?

Yes.

Why do you use TrueFire, and how often?

I am a lifelong student. I try to learn something new weekly.

What is your favorite feature of the TrueFire learning experience?

I do not have a single favorite feature. I enjoy the whole package (e.g., presentation, video, jam tracks, supporting materials)

Who is your favorite TrueFire Educator and why?

This is a moving target. There are a few, as previously mentioned. I guess I have spent more time with Jeff McErlain’s courses. I do enjoy his approach and explanations.

What would you like to see more of at TrueFire?

More $5 sales. Different courses and different approaches. For example, I like that Rev Robert Jones, Ariel Posen, Greg Koch, and Andy Wood are contributing new material.

Any other comments?

I would really love the opportunity to obtain a lifetime subscription at a price that takes into account my existing investment (I have already purchased 569 TrueFire courses and 21 JamPlay courses). This would allow me to try courses more fully. I would still likely buy courses that I really enjoy.
