The worldwide community of guitarists and musicians is one of the main reasons why TrueFire is where it is today. With our students’ input and feedback, we stay motivated to continue to expand our library and improve our music e-learning experience. So, while we spend a lot of time highlighting our incredible faculty and content, we think it’s time to move the spotlight on some of our most passionate users.

In this Student Spotlight series, we’ll be showcasing a member of the diverse TrueFire community and sharing their thoughts with you. We hope you find yourself inspired. Ignited we stand!

Student Spotlight: Halmer

Your Name:

Andrew M.

How long have you been a TrueFire Student?

13 years.

Tell us a little bit about yourself as a musician:

Started out playing in the sixties, in high school bands, and then professionally for a short period. Then gave up playing for many years because of family and other commitments. Moved to a large Eastern city, where there was music on every street corner, and the old feelings returned. Started back in my forties, playing in various bands, etc. Now in my seventies, playing with four other older types, still “living the dream.” Nothing like the magic of music, and as we all say, “cheaper than a therapist”…Music is timeless!

What attracted you to TrueFire at first?

Saw an ad for the website. Tried the free period and immediately realized the value of lessons, and became a member around 2009. Been with them ever since.

What are some of your favorite TrueFire courses or lessons?

Play all styles. I love fingerstyle, blues, rockabilly, Travis picking, classic rock, etc. Too many incredible TrueFire instructors here would fill up a whole page.

How has TrueFire helped improve your playing?

Well-laid-out instruction, different ideas, riffs, chords, etc. have expanded my toolbox. When I need something for a tune I’m doing, I most often will find something in either my downloaded TF lessons or in the vast TrueFire library. Best guitar teaching site out there!

Why do you use TrueFire, and how often?

Always looking for tasty additions to my playing. Also, I like to see what’s new in the offerings and how something they have might enhance something I am doing musically.

What is your favorite feature of the TrueFire learning experience?

Really enjoying the new “Songs” feature.

Who is your favorite TrueFire Educator and why?

Not a fair question. Too many great educators. But if I were to name one, Pete Huttlinger comes to mind. Incredible player. Sad we have lost him.

What would you like to see more of at TrueFire?

Really like the new “Songs” offerings. Chris Buono did a basic music theory course….more of those would be helpful.

Any other comments?

Still my favorite guitar website. Plan to hang around with TrueFire much longer. Just wish I’d win one of those prizes I always enter for, LOL!
