The worldwide community of guitarists and musicians is one of the main reasons why TrueFire is where it is today. With our students’ input and feedback, we stay motivated to continue to expand our library and improve our music e-learning experience. So, while we spend a lot of time highlighting our incredible faculty and content, we think it’s time to move the spotlight on some of our most passionate users.

In this Student Spotlight series, we’ll be showcasing a member of the diverse TrueFire community and sharing their thoughts with you. We hope you find yourself inspired. Ignited we stand!

Student Spotlight: Wermode

Your Name:

Stanton N.

How long have you been a TrueFire Student?

Since 2004, so over 18 years now.

Tell us a little bit about yourself as a musician:

I’ve played guitar for over 40 years, mostly as a hobby and to build my knowledge and skills. I gigged with friends occasionally. Since retirement, I have played guitar and bass daily and was playing professionally before COVID.

What attracted you to TrueFire at first?

I’m pretty sure I’m one of TrueFire’s earliest students. I bought individual online lessons starting in 2004. I currently own well over 100 courses.

What are some of your favorite TrueFire courses or lessons?

Courses by Jeff McErlain and Corey Congelio are always great. Blues Speak by Matt Schofield and the Open Road courses from David Grissom.

How has TrueFire helped improve your playing?

I’ve learned to move beyond scales and rote memorization to understand harmonic relationships across the fretboard. Music is a language to me now.

Why do you use TrueFire, and how often?

TrueFire has the best interface for video, audio, and transcription and offers top-notch players and instructors I use its courses daily.

What is your favorite feature of the TrueFire learning experience?

I’m a lifelong learner and teacher: TrueFire is based not just on solid music theory and practice but on the best pedagogical methods. It seems like TrueFire is constantly developing innovative new ways to teach and inspire musical growth.

Who is your favorite TrueFire Educator and why?

Jeff McErlain is #1 for me, a phenomenal player and teacher with brilliant insights and effective course organization. He can play blues with the best of them and then break it all down for us mortals. Jeff cares about our growth as much as his own art.

What would you like to see more of at TrueFire?

Intermediate country. The courses go from beginner to full-shred without enough to scaffold in between.

Any other comments?

Honestly, TrueFire was my lifeline during the pandemic. Without it, I wouldn’t have discovered Jeff McErlain, Jason Loughlin, or Corey Congelio. My playing has improved leaps and bounds the more time I invest in TrueFire study. It’s been a long, long ride since 2004. I hope to visit your studios someday. Thanks!
